Olly Murs’ fiancée has defended the singer amid the controversy surrounding the lyrics to his new song.
Amelia Tank called it all ‘just a bit of fun’ as she batted off accusations that he was ‘controlling’ after the release of his new single I Hate You When You’re Drunk on Friday.
The upbeat song, which will appear on his upcoming album Marry Me, was blasted online for what some fans interpreted as ‘cruel’ and ‘misogynistic’ lyrics.
In the song, the 38-year-old singer can be heard criticising a loved one for getting a bit too drunk on a night out.
He starts by singing: ‘Oh, you’re slurrin’ all your words, there’s make-up on my shirt / You’re dancin’ on the tables, can’t you see / That you look like a mess and you’re singin’ Whitney?’
Elsewhere he says that his ‘ears are bleeding’ as he hears a story for the fourth or fifth time, and repeatedly croons the lyrics: ‘Oh, I hate you, hate you, I hate you, hate you when you’re drunk.’

Critics took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with fellow music industry peer DJ Shaun Keavney taking a swipe.
He wrote on Twitter: ‘Olly Murs is quite the sad, controlling boyfriend according to the lyrics of his new song, “I Hate You When You’re Drunk”.
‘I look forward to her reply song “I Hate You When You Sing”.’
He added: ‘Imagine putting a track like that out into the world, being proud of the sentiment? It’s totally mad.’
However, Amelia then responded to the controversy on her Instagram stories on Monday.
Replying directly to Keaveny, according to NME, she posted: ‘Many thanks for your concern here however I can confirm that I in fact love my *NON* controlling *FIANCE* even more when he sings and this latest single is actually one of my favourites from the album.’
‘I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it bbz because I’m defo not #itsjustabitoffun,’ she added.
The bodybuilder then finished off: ‘Lots of love and have a magical evening.’
Singer Rebecca Taylor, aka Self Esteem, has also shared a screenshot of the lyrics and simply said: ‘Presented without comment,’ while others called it ‘pretty gross’, ‘an absolute shocker’ and ‘misogynistic’.
On Monday night, Olly appeared to ignore the backlash as he signed vinyl covers of his new album, sharing a video of his fan interactions on Twitter.
The Dance with Me Tonight singer has yet to address the criticism but did defend it ahead of the controversy, calling it ‘light-hearted’.

‘I thought it was a fun song to write as there have been so many times where a friend, family member or loved one has had one too many,’ Olly said of the track, before the backlash.
‘It’s a light-hearted take from the sober person’s point of view. We all know someone!’
