David Beckham joined celebrity football fans in reacting to England’s 3-0 win over Wales and congratulated the team for making it to the final 16 stage of the Qatar World Cup 2022.
Securing a place in the next round, Gareth Southgate’s England team, fans and celebrities alike rejoiced as goal after goal hit the back of the net on Tuesday evening.
Taking a three-nil lead over the rival side, Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden carried the team to a needed victory after plonking the match ball behind the goalkeeper.
Beckham didn’t waste time in applauding his former colours for making it through to the next round in a series of Instagram stories that tagged players and offered snapshots from the game.
He accompanied the images with words of affirmation including ‘great win’ and ‘well done boss’.
The star recently came under fire by comedian Joe Lycett, who criticised his decision to sign a lucrative deal listing him as a Qatari ambassador given the nation’s laws against LGBTQ+ people.

Despite the backlash, Beckham continued his support of the event held and nodded to fans in the stadiums as part of his tribute post when he wrote: ‘Always with us’ over a picture of a celebratory crowd.
The triumphant win was also much to the delight of YouTube sensation and musician KSI.
The star shared his excitement at his country’s advancement in the competition on Twitter both before and after he knew the result.
He wrote ahead of the fixture: ‘OH ITS GONNA BE ONE OF THISE DAYS ENGLAND. LET’S GOOOOO. WALES IN THE MUD [sic]’.

Ninety minutes later the celebrity was back to share his hopes for the next few matches: ‘IT’S COMING HOME! [sic]’
Piers Morgan wasn’t going to be left out of the fun as he took the opportunity to claim credit for his previous affirming of Foden’s talents.
Again on Twitter, the TV presenter cited earlier comments in which he described the young England player as ‘wondrously gifted’ and joked: ‘2-0. @PhilFoden scores.
‘I think the words “Thank you Piers” are appropriate.’
After taking time out to praise the team’s other goal scorer Rashford, the host later dedicated a section of his show to chatting with Danish striker Nadia Nadim who’s mother suddenly died in the middle of her live commentating last week.
Broadcaster Dan Walker uploaded photos of the two men of the match to his social media page and captioned them: ‘What a night for these 2 young men. Marcus Rashford has made a massive statement. #England.’ (sic)
England will take on Senegal in the next round of the World Cup on Sunday.
