Dominic West has explained just how he recreated King Charles breakdancing moves on The Crown season 5 before showing off his skills all over again.
Wes took over the role from Josh O’Connor in the recently released season five, and in one scene Dominic recreated a routine that Charles did back in the 1980s.
However he hadn’t actually heard about the iconic moment beforehand.
‘I missed this in my research,’ he admitted while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel.
‘I think it was Olivia Williams, who plays Camilla, she pointed out that on YouTube there is this footage of Prince Charles breakdancing as part of a Prince’s Trust thing and he’s meeting lots of kids and they are breakdancing and pulled him in to dance with them.
‘He takes dancing quite seriously and he gets into it and when he’s dancing with these two kids,’ he added.
Jimmy couldn’t miss a chance to play the original video, before saying that he ‘feel like if this had happened after the advent of YouTube that would be the most popular video in the history of the world’.

Chatting about the dancing, Dominic then labelled it quite ‘bizarre’.
‘It’s sort of late 70s disco mixed in with, I don’t know, sort of quite stiff [moves],’ he said.
‘It took awhile [to learn].’
He then revealed that while being taught the dance by a choreographer, he was told it would be challenging because there was ‘no rhythm’ and was ‘completely arrhythmic’.
‘The trouble I found was that the music was playing and I started getting too much into the rhythm which is a fatal mistake,’ he said.
‘It’s much harder to dance out of time but he does it brilliantly.’
When Jimmy asked if Dominic knew any other dance moves he started recreating some others and then did another show of the breakdancing for the audience, much to Jimmy’s delight.

In the closing scene for the fifth episode of the fifth season of The Crown, titled The Way Ahead, Prince Charles gets down with a bunch of teenagers after they entice him onto the dancefloor to breakdance with them.
He totally gets into it and busts off some moves that can only be described as …unique.

For those who have seen the scene, they might not know that it was based off an actual video that is still available to watch today.
Back in 1985, Charles visited a course organised by his Prince’s Trust charity in West Sussex, where he attended a disco and was encouraged to dance, and did he deliver, even dropping to his knees at one point.
An ambassador for the Prince’s Trust himself, Dominic has previously said he tried to step down from the role after being cast in the series.
However he said that he was told it would not be an issue and that it was ‘nothing to do with us’.
The Crown is streaming on Netflix. Jimmy Kimmel airs on ABC in the US.
