World Cup 2022: Wales vs England, USA vs Iran – final games of Group B today
With everything on the line at the World Cup, Wales and England meet in a mouthwatering final match in Group B.
In a game that will be broadcast on BBC One and Radio 5 Live, Robert Page’s Wales team must defeat England on Tuesday in order to have a chance of reaching the last 16.
England will be determined to win, so they can top the group as they head to the Round of 16. Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions will want to give a solid performance to build up confidence after a disappointing and boring game against the US.
Wales reached the quarterfinals in their only previous World Cup appearance, in 1958; can they repeat that feat or will presumptive champions England effortlessly advance to the knockout stages?
Can Wales make it out of the Group stages?
Wales, who are last in Group B, must beat England on Tuesday (kicking off at 19:00 GMT) and hope that the USA and Iran draw to advance to the last 16.
Wales must defeat England by four goals to advance if the USA-Iran match does not result in a draw.
Fans hope that captain Gareth Bale, who, along with midfielder Aaron Ramsey, was criticised for his performance in Iran’s 2-0 defeat, will rise to the occasion.
“We’re a team. We’re a nation and we work hard for each other. We need to deliver as a team, it’s not one person that needs to do anything,” Bale said.
“Of course we’d have loved to be winning and doing a lot better but the reality is, football is hard. If it was that easy, we’d be favourites to win the World Cup.”
