A driver who rammed into an Apple store, killing one person and injuring 19 others, has been arrested and claims it was an accident.
Bradley Rein, 53, was taken into custody on Monday night ‘as a result of the extensive investigation’ by Massachusetts state and Hingham police, according to Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz.
A witness said Rein’s Toyota 4Runner burst through an Apple store at the Derby Street Shops at around 60mph on Monday morning, leaving a massive hole on the glass front and slamming into the back wall. A contractor, Kevin Bradley, 65, of New Jersey, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rein has been charged with reckless motor vehicle homicide and reckless motor vehicle operation. Wearing jeans and a long-sleeved shirt, Rein pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Tuesday. A judge set a $100,000 cash bail for him and barred him from driving or leaving the state without the court’s permission.

His defense attorney told the court it was ‘an unfortunate accident’. Rein told investigators he was searching for an eyeglass store when his right foot got stuck on the accelerator of his SUV and he tried braking with his left foot but could not stop, prosecutors said.
‘Everything happened fast,’ Rein he told police.
Rein said he had not consumed alcohol or drugs and that he did not have medical issues that would impair his driving ability. His preliminary breathalyzer test had a 0.00% reading.
Records indicate that Rein was arrested in Vermont in December 2020 for driving under the influence. He was cited but released from custody by state police and later had the case expunged.

Rein’s next court date is December 22. He had no connection to Bradley or anyone else inside the Apple store at the time of the crash, according to prosecutors.
Bradley was ‘supporting recent construction at the store’ when the SUV plowed through the store, said an Apple spokesperson.
‘We are devastated by the shocking events at Apple Derby Street today and the tragic loss of a professional who was onsite supporting recent construction at the store,’ stated Apple, according to Fox News Digital.
‘Our hearts go out to our team members and customers who were injured and all of those who were affected by this terrible incident. We are doing everything we can to support our team members and customers at this very difficult time.’
