Ryan Reynolds has revealed the existence of a Deadpool Christmas movie and now we need to see this thing through.
The Marvel star, 46, has well and truly been embracing the season to be jolly this month, with the release of his shiny musical Christmas film, Spirited, with Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer.
The Canadian actor stars in the new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol as Scrooge stand-in Clint Briggs, a PR executive that the Ghost of Christmas Present (Will Ferrell) wishes to try and save after seeing him branded ‘unredeemable’.
Although Ferrell is a well-established Christmas star, thanks to the immense popularity of his 2003 comedy movie Elf – which has even been used in Asda’s 2022 Christmas advert – Reynolds has not really dipped his toe much into the waters of festive films.
However, he has now revealed that that is not for lack of trying, after revealing the existence of a Deadpool Christmas movie screenplay.
Reynolds was discussing his embracing of singing and dancing to new Benji Pasek and Justin Paul tunes for Spirited, the musical minds behind La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman, in a new interview when he made the revelation.

‘I would love to see a song and dance number in a Deadpool movie. Four years ago [Deadpool co-writers] Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool. But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made,’ he shared.
The actor added to The Big Issue: ‘Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.’

Reynolds has so far appeared in 2016’s original Deadpool movie, as well as 2018’s sequel and numerous shorts.
Deadpool 3 is currently in the works, which also heralds Hugh Jackman’s rather unexpected return as Wolverine.

Previously, he and the team did release a toned-down (PG-13) version of Deadpool 2, Once Upon a Deadpool, which included some Christmas embellishments – but this was an entirely separate project.
In 2019, Disney acquired Fox, which included the rights to the Deadpool franchise.
Deadpool 3 is currently scheduled for release on November 8, 2024.
