A pilot whose plane was left upside down on a beach managed to walk away without any serious injuries.
Witnesses were stunned when the man at the wheel of a downed aircraft emerged unharmed.
Joseph Cook was walking down the coastline on Anastasia Island with his metal detector when he heard a loud bang.
When he realised what had happened he ran towards the aircraft, shouting ‘oh my god, oh my god, somebody just crashed.’
Several people raced towards the plane to check on the pilot – but were shocked to realise he wasn’t badly injured.
It was surveying damage from Hurricane Nicole when its engine failed, leaving the it to glide and crash into the beach without harming anyone below.
While the aircraft needed patched up, the pilot left the scene without any last damage.

Recalling the moment it happened, Joseph said: ‘I heard it hit the water, I heard nothing at all before it crashed, I looked up and I watched the plane flip on its back end.
‘That’s the crazy part, I had no clue he was coming in, he was trying to land on the beach, but I was in his path.
‘By the time the plane had flipped on it’s back the guy was just standing there in the water, he must’ve jumped out.
‘He was in pretty good shape, though, you can see him lift his hat, but I’m pretty sure the guy was just fixing his hair.
‘That’s the worst part, he probably could have landed it on the beach, but he didn’t want to hit anyone,’ Joseph continued.
‘They ended up pulling the plane out with a tractor.’
