Acting legend Jason Donovan has reacted to the news Neighbours has been saved by Amazon Freevee.
The star, known for a variety of TV and theatre roles, developed his craft on the Australian soap playing the role of Scott Robinson, who went on to marry Kylie Minogue’s character, Charlene.
Jason and Kylie both reprised their roles a few month’s ago, when the show’s final ever episode aired on Channel 5.
Just like all of us, the returning cast members thought they wouldn’t see Ramsay Street ever again but following yesterday’s (November 17) news, that’s all set to change.
The new series will premiere exclusively for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and U.S. and will include streaming rights to thousands of episodes from the previous seasons, available prior to the new series’ premiere.
The series will also stream on Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Production is set to commence in early 2023 with a world premiere slated for the second half of the year.
While many, many fans reacted to the news, so did the stars including Jason, who tweeted:
‘Neighbours has helped shine a light on Australian culture, provided endless opportunities for our industry and kept fans entertained for decades! Thrilled to hear that Neighbours will return to our screens in 2023.’
Alan Fletcher, who will reprise his role as Karl Kennedy next year, also said: ‘The most incredible news! Neighbours is back!’.
Elsewhere, while the Neighbours fans, cast and crew were overjoyed with the news, a Holby City star couldn’t help but wonder if Amazon Freevee may contemplate saving the BBC One medical drama, following its cancellation.
Davood Ghadami – who played Eli Ebrahimi in the show – posted a tweet and wrote:

News broke about Holby City’s axing in 2021, with the final ever episode airing back in March of this year.
So thrilled!
