Gallas ‘very disappointed’ with Chelsea this season (Picture: Getty)
Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has slammed the club’s flop summer signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella.
The Blues spent close to £280million following Todd Boehly’s takeover at Stamford Bridge after losing Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner also moving on.
Fofana and Cucurella were bought in for big money from Leicester City and Brighton respectively with former Arsenal captain Aubameyang arriving from Barcelona.
Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina also arrived in west London with Denis Zakaria joining from Juventus on loan.
Just a week after the summer window closed, however, Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel and replaced him with Graham Potter, raising questions over the club’s direction in the transfer market.
Chelsea sit seven points adrift of fourth place and 16 off league leaders Arsenal with Gallas pointing to those summer arrivals as a key reason behind that slump.
The former France international took aim at £60m signing Cucurella while also questioning the logic of spending £75m on Fofana, a player who has recently come back from serious injury and has managed just four appearances for his new side this season.

‘I’m very disappointed. I’m very disappointed with where Chelsea are,’ Gallas told Genting Casino.
‘They are not picking up any results, and I think the club are suffering after a transfer window and period where Tuchel was sacked that lacked any form of strategy.
‘They spent a lot of money in the summer. The players that they signed have been performing below the expected level of a Chelsea player.
‘Wesley Fofana is injured, but we all knew about his injury record. I don’t know what they are getting from Cucarella, who was signed for £60million! He doesn’t play for Spain. He isn’t in the Chelsea starting eleven. £60million! Wow!
‘They signed Aubameyang. He doesn’t look good – he did nothing against Arsenal and was on the bench against Newcastle.
‘The club didn’t have any strategy in the transfer window. They rushed it. They tried to buy players for Tuchel, then they sacked him. At the moment, it is a big mess at Chelsea.’
