Manchester United are targeting a sensational move for Kylian Mbappe as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Old Trafford club are prepared to cut ties with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan where he accused United of ‘betraying’ him.
Ronaldo also took aim at Erik ten Hag, insisting he does not respect the United manager. Ten Hag has reportedly since told the club’s hierarchy that Ronaldo should not play for the club again.
United had already been drawing up a list of strikers with a new addition up top expected to be a priority next summer.
But the Mirror report they will now accelerate those plans with an audacious January move for Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe now being explored.
The France international is on a salary worth £500,000-per-week – the same wages Ronaldo picks up – with United one of the few clubs in the financial position to offer similar terms.
Such a move would also command a transfer fee of £150million, comfortably surpassing the record fee United paid for Paul Pogba in 2017.

Mbappe was poised to join Real Madrid last summer only to make a dramatic U-turn and sign a new deal with PSG.
However, reports in October claimed the 23-year-old is looking to leave the French capital as soon as January, frustrated over ‘broken promises’ including those over new signings in the summer window and his own role in the team.
Reports of PSG failing to pay a portion of his staggering wages earlier in the season have also contributed to the strained relationship between the player and club.
Real Madrid have cooled their interest in Mbappe after being snubbed by the former Monaco starlet in the summer while Manchester City and Liverpool have both made long-term additions up front in Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez.
A January move for Mbappe would prove very difficult for United but he is viewed as a ‘dream signing’ at Old Trafford and the club plan to explore the possibility with Ronaldo set to move on.
Napoli star Victor Osimhen is also on United’s radar and is viewed as a more realistic January target for the club, with Napoli bracing themselves for January offers for the Nigeria international.
