Mikel Arteta should ignore Piers Morgan and keep Cristiano Ronaldo as far away from Arsenal as possible, claims Premier League icon Chris Sutton.
On Sunday, Ronaldo was interviewed by Morgan and dropped a number of bombshells, not least that the legendary forward has ‘no respect’ for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
The interview confirmed all the reports and rumours from the past few months that Ronaldo is determined to leave Old Trafford at all costs and will burn any and every bridge he has in order to do so.
While his departure is now a question of not if but when, it is still unclear where the 37-year-old will play his football next.
Over the summer, he was linked with a switch to another Premier League club in the form of Chelsea, but Morgan hopes that he will join their London rivals Arsenal, who are top of the table going into the World Cup break.
The former GMB presenter, himself a Gunners supporter, said: ‘He’s exactly what we need. Cristiano and Gabriel Jesus would take us to the title.’
Sutton, a Premier League champion with Blackburn Rovers, believes the complete opposite would happen, claiming that Ronaldo’s ego and personality would clash with the strong team ethos that Arteta has built at the Emirates.

The former striker wrote on Twitter: ‘Arteta did well to kick out [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang so signing Ronaldo would be a big step back…’
The Arsenal boss has become renowned for getting rid of players who he deemed to be too self-centred and detrimental to the club, with Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi among those sold in spite of their ability.
While these decisions were at first criticised they have proven to be highly-successful in the long-term and Ten Hag has begun enacting a similar policy at United.
According to Betfair, Ronaldo’s boyhood club Sporting Lisbon are the favourites to sign him, ahead of Chelsea and any MLS club.
