A former lawyer to Donald Trump’s wife Melania has been elected as the new president of Slovenia.
Nataša Pirc Musar won the second round of the Balkan country’s election and will become its first female head of state.
With almost all votes now counted, the 54-year-old defeated conservative veteran Anže Logar with a near 10%.
In her first speech after victory, Ms Musar said: ‘I will do my best to be a true president for all, to work for fundamental and constitutional human and democratic rights and democracy.’
A prominent lawyer, Ms Musar had represented the former US first lady Melania Trump in copyright and other cases in her native country.
Ms Trump hired her in August 2016 after a magazine published false allegations that she was working as an escort.

At the time, she stressed how disappointed she was at the behaviour of Slovenian tabloids.
Ms Musar was also the president of Slovenia’s Red Cross between 2015 and 2016, and before becoming a lawyer she was a reporter for a number of home and foreign media outlets.
Although the role is mostly ceremonial, the president in Slovenia is commander in chief of the armed forces and also nominates several top officials, including the central bank governor.
On Sunday, she thanked her staff and volunteers who ran her campaign, adding she is ‘looking forward to new challenges.

She said: ‘There has never been such a campaign in Slovenia. I am proud of my staff, all the volunteers, and a little of myself, of course.
‘I am satisfied, thank you all very much. I look forward to new challenges.’
Ms Musar will replace Borut Pahor who has been active in politics for 30 years.
A former fashion model who served two five-year terms, he is often referred to in public as the Instagram president for his frequent use of the social network.
