Kate Winslet and her daughter Mia Threapleton share a sweet moment in an official first look at their new Channel 4 drama I Am Ruth.
The upcoming series stars The Dressmaker actress who plays the titular lead, a loving and concerned mother who notices her teenage daughter Freya (Mia) withdrawing as she becomes wrapped up by the pressures of social media.
The hit show has previously featured Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure in I Am Nicola and Gentleman Jack star Suranne Jones in I Am Victoria, while Samantha Morton was nominated for a Bafta for her turn in I Am Kirsty.
Speaking about her current project, the Titanic Oscar-winner said: ‘The collaborative and sensitive way in which Dominic Savage [director] goes about creating and filming each episode of I Am is challenging, rewarding and completely immersive. The actors become these roles, and there is simply no room for pretending.’
Caroline Hollick, Channel 4’s head of drama said the collaboration between Kate, Mia and Dominic had ‘produced a compelling, heart-rending and ultimately very relatable character for our times in Ruth’.
Other actresses who have appeared in the anthology series so far include Marvel stars Gemma Chan and Letitia Wright, and Oscar-winner Lesley Manville.

Mia, 21, is Kate’s eldest daughter, who she shares with first husband, film director Jim Threapleton.
The couple was married between 1998 and 2001.
She is also mum to son Joe, 18, with second husband, Bond director Sam Mendes, and eight-year-old son Bear with current husband Edward Abel Smith.
Although her most high-profile role to date, Mia already has acting credits to her name, including TV series Dangerous Liaisons and independent film Shadows, in which she played the main part.

Kate previously revealed that Mia had started acting without anyone seeming to notice.
Speaking to Lorraine Kelly last April, she explained: ‘What’s great for her is she has a different surname so she slipped under the radar and the people who cast her didn’t know she was my daughter and that was important for her self-esteem, of course.’
I Am Ruth airs on Channel 4 later this year.
