Yungblud, a.k.a Dominic Harrison, has revealed the generational gap he feels between older artists like The 1975 and Arctic Monkeys.
Using social media to rise to the top of the music industry ladder, he came clean about not being able to relate to a different era of musicians that found fame through a more traditional route.
As part of Rolling Stone’s Artist of the Year Awards series, the UK version of the music magazine went on the road with the controversial star.
The high-energy, larger than life persona spoke up on his musical influences and listed frontmen Matt Healy and Alex Turner, as ‘a generation apart’ from himself.
He said: ‘When I look at The 1975 and Arctic Monkeys, they’re such a different generation to me.
‘When they speak, they’re profound now. I don’t want to be profound yet.

‘I don’t relate to them as much as I used to. They’re older and it’s all very serious. We’re absolutely a generation apart, there’s a big difference between us.
‘Different brains, different way of communicating. Personally, I relate to Mac Miller, Billie Eilish, Lil Peep and Lil Nas X. That’s where my head is at.’
When questioned on his musical process, the singer described something as chaotic as some of his previous performances that garnered him the original online attention.

‘I wanna be that feeling of throwing paint at the wall and sometimes it’s gonna be a masterpiece and sometimes it’s gonna f**king suck.
Credit where credit’s due, he nodded to the Arctic Monkeys as one of the country’s greats: ‘I look at truly great British artists like Amy Winehouse or Arctic Monkeys or Sam Fender – they have their critically acclaimed albums on [album] one or two or three.’
The performer known for his candour when it comes to speaking out on bigger issues, also shared details on his romantic relationship with singer-songwriter, Jesse Jo Stark.
Pouring out his love for his girlfriend, Yungblud credited the artist for keeping him centred: ‘She’s been so centering in my life, she’s just my best friend and I wanna hang out with her all day.
‘She’s the most rock n roll person I’ve ever met.’
