Martin Lewis doesn’t want to hear I’m A Celebrity stars claiming they don’t know why they signed up.
The new series of the hit ITV reality show got underway last night with the likes of Olivia Attwood, Boy George and Chris Moyles heading into the jungle, but the Money Saving Expert founder is done with contestants not being honest about the reasons for taking part.
Less than 15 minutes into Sunday’s launch, he tweeted: ‘I do roll my eyes when I hear “I don’t know what I’m doing here” on #ImACeleb.
‘It’s an entertainment TV booking. You’re on there for one or more of… 1) a paycheque 2) to boost your profile 3) to rehabilitate your image… Simples’
Martin didn’t specify who he was talking about in his tweet – plenty of people have said similar things in the past – but his comments come after radio presenter Chris Moyles insisted he wasn’t sure what he was doing on the show.
Some viewers seemed much more sympathetic, with one fan writing: ‘Awwww I love @ChrisMoyles. “I don’t really know what I’m doing here” 😥 I think he’s going to be great!! (sic)’

Another added: ‘I’ll level with you I don’t really know what I’m doing here” Aw @ChrisMoyles #ImACeleb 💔 (sic)’
While some people said Martin was ‘spitting facts’ and ‘hard truths’, others urged him not to be ‘so cynical’ and insisted another reason for taking part could be ‘to have an experience that money can’t buy’.

Before going into the jungle, Chris admitted he had ‘always’ turned down offers from I’m A Celebrity bosses, but finally changed his made for this year’s series.
‘Now I don’t know why I said yes. But I am a huge fan of the show and I know what I am letting myself in for,’ he added. ‘My friends who have done it before have told me I will have a great time.’
Meanwhile, Martin replied to a follower on Twitter and admitted he has ‘said no more than once’ when it comes to taking part himself, noting he’s got some specific criteria if he was going to join a reality show.
He explained: ‘I’d only do one-off things so single programmes as I don’t have any time for training or to be off work. And they’d have to be something I’d genuinely enjoy doing.’
I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
