William Gallas believes Arsenal have gone to ‘another level’ but fears they will have to settle for a point against Chelsea in Sunday’s London derby.
The Gunners have made a sensational start to the season having collected 10 wins from their 12 games so far, with only Manchester United and Southampton taking points off Mikel Arteta’s side so far.
Arsenal returned to the summit, after Manchester City had leapfrogged them 24 hours earlier, following a crushing 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
‘I think the win against Nottingham Forest shows us that Arsenal have gone to the next level, if we compare them to previous Arsenal sides,’ Gallas told Genting Casino.
‘So they had a good response by winning 5-0, which was very important, because they are top of the league and still putting pressure on Manchester City.
‘It’s a long season, but with that message of winning 5-0, it’s really good for the club and the players because they have to play the next game against Chelsea and they have confidence.
‘They are not afraid to play the way they want to play. It’s always better to go to Stamford Bridge looking for a victory because when you play the game like this you need to have all that confidence around you, that’s why those three points will help them a lot to have a good result there.’

Despite their improvement, Gallas believes it will be honours even at Stamford Bridge with another of his former sides looking to bounce back from last weekend’s embarrassing defeat at Brighton.
He added: ‘Chelsea vs Arsenal is a London derby, so I expect to see a good performance from both teams. I expect it will be very intense, with an electric atmosphere.
‘But I will go for a draw because after the Brighton game, Chelsea have to respond well.
‘Arsenal won 5-0 against Nottingham Forest so they will go to Stamford Bridge with high confidence. I think it will be very interesting to watch, I think it will be open because both have to win.
‘Neither will go for a draw, but in the end I think it will be a draw.’
