Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame producers Anthony and Joe Russo revealed they’re taking inspiration from TikTok to make their live-action musical adaptation of Disney’s Hercules – and fans are not here for it.
Lovers of the Disney classic shared their fears on social media after hearing directors had reportedly taken inspiration from TikTok for their upcoming Hercules project.
The live action remake promises to dispel previous comments that re-imagined Disney films haven’t been bold or original enough in their live-action forms.
However, the internet isn’t so keen on seeing their favourite demi-god bust out moves made popular by the social video app.
Jumping to defend the beloved original, fans flooded Twitter with their response to the news.
One user warned: ‘Don’t you dare mess with this!’

Another added: ‘They’re gonna make The Muses do TikTok dances and it’s gonna be shot in vertical mode. Don’t you dare.’
‘Inspired by TIKTOK?? Are they insane?? Yeah no, never gonna watch a Disney movie ever again. Only the classics,’ a naysayer of the new format proposal questioned.
Speaking with Variety, the Russo brothers admitted they are looking to the popular social media app for ideas on how to ‘push the boundaries’ and be ‘a little more experimental’.

More at home in the Marvel studio, the creative duo have several blockbusters under their belts including Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War.
Determined to do something different, they hinted at putting a Gen-Z on the animated classic and ensured fans they are looking to branch out by modernising the original version.
‘I think they’re excited to see what we can all bring to it in a way that isn’t just a reinterpretation of the animated film,’ the brothers told Variety.
Explaining their plan of action, they continued: ‘There are questions about how you translate it as a musical. Audiences today have been trained by TikTok, right?
‘What is their expectation of what that musical looks like and feels like?
‘That can be a lot of fun and help us push the boundaries a little bit on how you execute a modern musical.’
No casting news has been announced for the feature film but production will be directed by Snatch creator, Guy Ritchie.
Following the example of all Disney films in the 1990s, the beloved animation is a musical largely carried by a female quintet posed as a Greek chorus.
Originally directed by The Little Mermaid team of John Musker and Ron Clements, Hercules tells the story of the Greek demigod as he rises to fame for his acts of heroism.
Fans are still waiting on a proposed release date but in the meantime, can indulge their inner child by streaming the animated version on Disney+.
