The second series of Young Royals has come to Netflix, and star Edvin Ryding has spoken out about how his character Prince Wilhelm is empowered by not labelling his sexuality.
The highly-anticipated second series of the Swedish teen drama was released on Tuesday and it’s packed full of love, laughter, tears, and revenge following the explosive end to the first series.
Fans were left heartbroken when Simon (Omar Rudeberg) and Prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) broke up and parted ways before the Christmas holidays.
The second series of the show begins in the New Year, with Wilhelm dealing with the fallout of August (Malte Gårdinger) outing his relationship against his will.
One of the key themes in the first series was Wilhelm exploring his sexuality, and for Edvin, showing why labelling sexuality is not important to him.
‘There are a lot of different labels right now,’ the actor, 19, told PinkNews, ‘but the thing about Wilhelm is he doesn’t have a label.’

‘Although he’s unsure of what he wants, he knows he enjoys spending time with Simon and it doesn’t matter that he is a boy, that’s not the thing itself.
‘For him it’s just fine being unlabelled and I think that’s important to show the audience that you can be unlabelled.’
The star also spoke about the impact the character has had on fans, revealing he has had fans tell him his portrayal of Wilhelm has given others the courage to come out to their loved ones.
The series, which began in 2021, follows Prince Wilhelm as he settles into his new prestigious boarding schools.

Following the release of the first series, a second was confirmed in September last year.
Speaking to Pink News ahead of the second series release, Young Royals creator and writer Lisa Ambjörn said there would be plenty of soul-searching in these new episodes.
‘A fire has been ignited by the end of season one and for Wilhelm it is all about revenge against August and trying to gain Simon’s trust back,’ she revealed.
Series 2 of Young Royals is available to stream on Netflix now.
