The cost of living crisis and our collective focus on the environment have created a perfect storm for fashion retailers, who are grappling with shoppers’ tighter purse-strings and desire to buy more sustainably.
Last Christmas, M&S teamed up with clothing rental service Hirestreet to offer a more eco-friendly (and affordable) festive dressing option, and the supermarket has renewed the collaboration for 2022.
This time around, as well as being able to rent standout pieces and hardworking staples, you’ll also be able to hire a whole ‘capsule wardrobe’ for under £40.
There are six edits to choose from, each with 10 outfit variations handpicked by stylists to suit your needs.
Made up of a selection of the range’s 78 pieces, each bundle is worth between £208 and £323, with hire for up to five days at £39.
The Bold Moves edit offers the most bang for your buck, including a £22.50 snakeskin-print blouse, £55 green shacket, and a £69 zebra-print dress.

Everyday favourites like a £55 pair of black jeans and a £32.50 black cardigan have also been included, alongside a statement pair of pink wide leg trousers (£39.50) to pull your combinations together.
The Monochrome Moments collection is made up of versatile black and white pieces that’ll go with whatever’s in your wardrobe, while the City Knits edit is (as you’d expect) packed with warm yet unfussy knitwear to take you from office to bar.
Transitional Trends, Comfy Cool, and Autumn Warmth are the other three sets, comprising laid-back denim, workwear basics, and coats and jackets to see you through the season.

Costing £39, postage is £5 and customers have the option to add £3 insurance to their purchase in case of any accidents. You can also extend your rental period for up to a month for an extra £20.
If you don’t fancy a full capsule wardrobe, single pieces or outfits can be rented too.
Everything from chunky boots to wedding-ready two-pieces is available to hire from £10 – and M&S’s coveted collaboration with Ghost is also rentable.

M&S x Ghost dresses that would normally set you back £69 can be rented for £14 for four days, rising to £22 if you want to keep it for a whole month.
In a statement, M&S’ managing director of clothing and home, Richard Price, said: ‘This season it’s not just about what we offer but how – this is just one of the ways we’re working to support customers as they expect to lower their carbon footprint.’
