A far-right politician has been pictured appearing to dance on the Holocaust memorial.
Germans have reacted with fury at the image of Holger Winterstein standing atop one of the concrete structures – built in memory to the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis – with his arms outstretched.
Israeli ambassador in Berlin, Ron Prosor, hit out at the Alternative for Germany politician, telling him to enjoy his ‘shameful minute of fame’.
Retweeting the image, he wrote: ‘Mr. Winterstein, everyone is watching you dance while you bring shame on yourself and your party.
‘Enjoy your shameful minute of fame because your name will soon be forgotten.
‘The sanctified souls commemorated at the memorial will never be forgotten.’
It appears the photo was taken following a protest calling for an end to German sanctions on Russia, which was organised by Alternative for Germany on Saturday.

The party is a radical right-wing populist party founded in 2013, and is known for its opposition to the European Union and anti-immigration stance.
It said it will be taking action against Mr Winterstein’s ‘extremely disrespectful behaviour’.
In 2018, the party’s leader in the state of Bjoern Hoecke, called the Holocaust memorial a ‘monument of shame’ and called for Germany to perform a ‘180-degree turn’ when it comes to the way it remembers its past.
A party tribunal at the time rejected a bid to get him expelled from the party for the comments.
