Joe Biden to tell Liz Truss to negotiate over NI protocol
Joe Biden will urge PM Liz Truss to negotiate with the EU to resolve tensions around the Northern Ireland protocol, the White House has said.
Biden and Truss will hold their first bilateral meeting on Wednesday after Truss travelled to New York for a UN summit.
Tensions between the two leads emerged after the UK government’s controversial plan to override parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol.
Biden and Truss both want negotiations to resolve the row between London and Brussels over the protocol – which was signed when Boris Johnson was prime minister.
Ms Truss said: “I’ve always been clear my preference is for a negotiated settlement to deal with those issues and I will continue to seek that. But what I will not allow is for this situation to drift.”
