A British man drowned in Lake Garda after saving his son after jumping from a boat as one of the two children fell overboard.
They said Mr Chada “saved his son” but then “disappeared” near the boat. The Italian coastguard said it immediately sent one of its boats, which had been on patrol in the area.
A witness told local media: “The mother screamed and the father jumped into the water.”
British man drowned in Lake Garda
Aran Chada, from Leicestershire, was at Lake Garda on holiday with his partner and two children.
The family had rented a boat on Friday when Mr Chada’s son got into trouble off the coast of the resort of Limone.
It is thought the holiday was organised to celebrate Mr Chada’s birthday on Tuesday when he is due to turn 52.
A helicopter and divers from the fire service also joined efforts to find Mr Chada.
The search for the missing body
Searches were still underway on Sunday, with the coastguard, fire brigade and police all involved.
While offshore the long research activity continued for hours. That until the evening, when the light made it possible to work, did not lead to positive results despite the use of the Rov, the robot that scales the depths of Lake Garda.
The coastguard said operations would continue over the next few days to find the body of the British man drowned in Lake Como.
The Foreign Office said it was supporting the family and had been in contact with local police.
