Today’s Daily News – The Met Office has forecast that 2023 will be hotter in the UK than this year – and one of the hottest years on record. A second person has died following a crowd crush at a London gig and former US president Donald Trump may face four criminal charges in relation to his role in the January 6 attack on the US capitol building.
In the newspapers, the UK’s week of strike chaos dominates the front pages, as the government is being urged to hold talks with unions to end the madness. Much of the public is in support of the NHS strikes and believes the workers should be paid in line with rising costs.
Met Office forecasts 2023 will be hotter than 2022
The Met Office has forecast that 2023 will be warmer than this year, and one of the hottest years on record. Predictions suggest it will be the 10th year in a row the global temperature is at least 1C above average. Temperatures in 2023 are forecast to be between 1.08C and 1.32C above the pre-industrial average.

Security worker dies after Brixton gig crush
Another person has died following the crush at a Brixton O2 Academy gig. Gaby Hutchinson, 23, who worked as a security contractor that night, died in hospital in the early hours of Monday. Hutchinson is the second person to die as a result of a crowd crush at the gig of singer Asake, as a “large number of people” tried to force their way inside, the Met Police said. A third person remains in critical condition in hosptial. Police are investigating the incident.

Jan 6 committee seeks four criminal charges for Trump
A US inquiry into the 2021 riot at the Capitol has said that former president Donald Trump should face criminal charges, including insurrection. The committee voted unanimously for the justice department to prosecute Mr Trump on four charges:
- Inciting, assisting, aiding or comforting an insurrection
- Obstruction of an official proceeding
- Conspiracy to defraud the United States
- Conspiracy to make a false statement
The former president has slammed the panel and called it a “kangeroo court.” He continues to deny any wrongdoing.

Harvey Weinstein found guilty in second sex crimes trial
Disgraced Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty by a Los Angeles jury of raping a woman. Weinstein, 70, is facing up to 24 years in prison when he is sentenced. He is already serving 23 years in jail after he was found guilty at the first trial in New York. He was convicted of rape and sexual assault in the first trial two years ago.

Tuesday’s newspapers report heavily on the upcoming NHS strikes as ministers are urged to engage in talks with unions. Many papers note the general public is still overwhelmingly in favour of medical workers being paid fairly and understands the struggle the workers face.
