11 arrested over shooting of officer in Northern Ireland
Eleven people have been arrested in County Tyrone in connection with the attempted murder of senior detective John Caldwell. The detective was shot while loading footballs into his car at a sports complex in Omagh on February 22.
Nine men and two women, aged between 21-72, were arrested on Friday morning under the Terrorism Act. The arrests were made following a substantial search and arrest operation conducted in Ommagh and Coalisland.
Authorities suspect that the terrorist group, the New IRA, may have collaborated with an organised crime gang to carry out the attack, with has left Caldwell with life-changing injuries.
Detectives have seized approximately 400,000 hours of CCTV footage for analysis as part of their ongoing investigation into the individuals involved in the shooting.
The shooting drew widespread condemnation from Northern Ireland and beyond.
