Sony’s 2023 plans probably don’t include Hogs Of War (pic: Sony)
A reader makes 10 suggestions for Sony in 2023, including an end to cross-gen games and a new first person shooter to rival Call Of Duty.
I have enjoyed this year with a mixture of new releases and catching up on some of my backlog. As the year draws to a close I have started to think of my PlayStation wishes for 2023. So here’s what I am hoping for.
1. An end to Sony first party cross-gen games
PlayStation 5 has been out for a while and is relatively easily available to buy now. I am hoping for current gen only games, so we can start seeing what the PlayStation 5 is truly capable of.
There is a sign of this happening with Forspoken (though it unfortunately does not look very promising) and Spider-Man 2. So hopefully this will start being the norm.
2. An end to the Call Of Duty row between Microsoft and Sony
Sony was reportedly offered a 10 year deal for the game. Personally, myself, I think Sony should have accepted this. They could then focus on maybe developing their own exclusive first person shooter title to rival it.
3. Sony exclusive arcade racer
I like Gran Turismo but what PlayStation is lacking is their own arcade racer. I loved MotorStorm and it would be great to see a new title in the series.
4. Return of PlayStation Home
This was a virtual social game platform back on the PlayStation 3. Would be interesting to see how an updated version would work on current gen.
5. Point ‘n’ click games
Return Of Monkey Island was among my favourite games from this year. Don’t know how it did sales wise but hopefully enough for more similar style games to be released. Back in my Amiga days I enjoyed the likes of The Colonel’s Bequest, Cruise For A Corpse, and Lure Of The Temptress. Would love to see remastered versions of these.
6. Hogs Of War
One of my favourite PlayStation games. A remastered version with online modes would be great. The legendary Rik Mayall’s original voiceovers would need to be kept!
7. Return of backgrounds
On the PlayStation 4 you were able to add your own backgrounds to the Home Screen. Would be nice to see this added onto PlayStation 5 at some point.
8. ITVX app
Not sure why. Maybe it is a licensing issue? But there is no ITV app on PlayStation 5. All the other main terrestrial ones are on there, so seems a bit strange that this one is missing.
9. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Next year marks the 20th anniversary of the final season. There was a PlayStation 2 game based on the show which I enjoyed. Now would be a great time to see a remastered version.
10. Newsfeed
On the PlayStation 4 there was a latest newsfeed list so you could easily see what Trophies your friends had recently achieved. I have had a look at the settings and it looks like this is missing on PlayStation 5. Be nice to see it added.
So there you go, my own 2023 wish list. Hopefully a bit of GC magic can make some of these come true!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the GC staff and readers!
