10 million Ukrainians without power after heavy Russian strikes
President Zelensky has said 10 million Ukrainians are without power after a heavy bombardment of missile strikes by Russia.
The fresh wave of attacks killed at least seven people, and the death toll is expected to rise.
Ukraine’s air defence managed to shoot down six cruise missiles and five drones, Zelensky said.
On Thursday, Russia hit Ukraine with missiles, hitting more energy installations and civilian buildings – less than two days after one of its heaviest bombardments yet.
Kyiv residents woke on Thursday morning to a blanket of snow, and the emergency power shutdowns have meant many people do not have heating in their homes.
Kyiv is experiencing the worst power outages along with the western city of Vinnytsia, the port city of Odesa and Sumy in the northeast.
The locals are taking air raid alerts seriously after the recent wide-ranging assaults.
