US could face 300,000 new Covid cases a day as Delta variant takes hold
The Times says the US faces as many as 300,000 new Covid-19 cases a day by the end of the month as the Delta variant spreads across the country, according to a new analysis.
Scientists at the University of Washington say that the surge in new cases, from the current rate of about 70,000 a day, could be slowed by more people wearing a mask. Should the daily rate hit the new projected figure, the researchers forecast that by September around 1,500 people will be dying each day from the virus.
