UK Covid cases: UK reports another 10,321 coronavirus cases and 14 deaths, London opens vaccine pop up centres

The UK reported on Saturday night, 10,321 new Covid cases and 14 more deaths, according to official daily figures.

The latest data marks the third consecutive day cases in the UK have been above 10,000.

The figures compare with 10,476 infections and 11 deaths the previous say and 7,738 cases and 12 deaths last Saturday.

A further 218,636 people have received their vaccine and 188,858 have had their second jab.

It means 81 per cent of adults have received their first jab, and 59 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Total UK deaths since the start of the pandemic – within 28 days of a positive test – stand at 127,970.

Latest average daily deaths are 10.6 and have remained flat over the past few months – lower than the winter peak in mid-January when the figure was more than 1,200.

There are 1,316 people in hospital with Covid according to the latest figures from 17 June.

Hospitalisations have increased as the Delta variant sweeps the UK.

    Patients now ‘much younger’

At the start of June, the figure was 928, but health officials say patients are now much younger than previous waves and that most are unvaccinated.

Meanwhile, ministers are considering allowing fully vaccinated people to avoid self-isolation and instead take daily tests.

Experts are saying No 10 may allow them to avoid the 10 days’ isolation even if they’ve had contact with an infected person.

All over-18s are now allowed to book their jabs and large “pop up” clinics have opened in London’s big football stadiums.

Chelsea said it had 6,000 Pfizer jabs to administer on Saturday.

Nadhim Zahawi, the vaccines minister, tweeted: “This is an incredible effort by the whole London team.

“Happening across the City at Spurs, Arsenal, Charlton and West Ham too. Come on London let’s get vaccinated!”
