You’d be forgiven for thinking Tom Hardy was set to star in a medieval movie after his latest Instagram story but the truth is much more bizarre.
While out for a stroll, the Venom actor accidentally stumbled across a jousting competition with attendees in full historic costumes.
A far cry from his Cbeebies bedtime stories episodes but possibly reminiscent of his time on the set of The Reckoning (2003), Tom got stuck into the medieval action.
We’re not sure who was more surprised, the 45-year-old or the unsuspecting bards, knights, princes, and princesses at The Loxwood Joust festival.
Tom happened upon the West Sussex festival which allows guests to ‘step back in time’ into ‘a medieval world of war, chivalry and romance’.
The Peaky Blinders star couldn’t resist getting involved and ended up in full knight garb to enter into the fights, ‘as you do’ he added.

Posting videos of the tournament on his story, he wrote: ‘This might have happened today… Random day out in the English countryside nipping to the shops.’
Tom is no stranger to fights, getting gold in a Jiu-Jitsu competition held in a local Milton Keynes school last September.
He also participated in a charity event in Wolverhampton in August, where he also nabbed two golds.
This is a little bit different however as he got into full metal armour with a helmet more cumbersome than Bane’s mask.
‘Thanks for the beatings,’ Tom joked before adding: ‘Not quite BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) but not bad either.’
He, of course, stopped to pose with fans, clearly enjoying his unexpected time as a medieval knight.
