Today’s news summary – Paper Talk

Sunday’s front pages report heavily on ‘key Brexit ally’ Lord Frost quitting his government role over his reported unhappiness with Covid vaccine passports. The papers suggest the crisis engulfing the PM’s leadership has deepened with Frost’s departure.

Covid is widely covered across the papers with pleas for restrictions to avoid mass hospitalisations and deaths.

Scientists have urged the government to bring in restrictions now amid fears deaths could surge to 6,000 a day, according to The Observer.

COVID hospitalisations could hit 3,000 a day in January as top scientists warn Boris Johnson delays could be deadly, the Sunday Mirror reports.

An emergency Cobra meeting will be held amid fears the Omicron variant will force record numbers to isolate, the Sunday Express reports.

The Sunday Times reports how the crisis engulfing Boris Johnson’s leadership has deepened with the departure of key Brexit ally, Lord Frost.

“Covid rips into NHS heroes”, the Sunday People warns. Up to 50,000 doctors, nurses and NHS staff could be out of action on Christmas Day due to the surge in Omicron cases, according to the paper.

The Sunday Telegraph leads on Brexit minister Lord Frost resigning from the cabinet – leaving Downing Street in chaos.
