Today’s news summary – Paper Talk

Photos of the prime minister’s former press secretary, Allegra Stratton, laughing feature on many of Wednesday’s front pages – as the claims that Downing Street held a Christmas party during lockdown last December were given fresh impetus despite all the denials.

Interestingly, the Sun and the Daily Telegraph choose not to feature the scandal on their front page – whilst other papers are calling for resignations and highlighting the betrayal.

Boris Johnson is facing accusations of lying after senior No 10 officials were filmed joking about a Christmas party that Downing Street insists did not take place, writes The Guardian.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson broke COVID rules by holding a staff party just before Christmas last year, according to the Daily Mirror.

Boris Johnson has piled pressure on the NHS to go “faster” in delivering millions of booster jabs, writes the Daily Express.

Metro also leads with the news that senior Downing Street staff have been caught on film laughing about holding a Christmas party.

Energy chiefs have been criticised after blaming the Storm Arwen power-cut crisis on the wrong type of wind, reports The Sun.

Leaked footage shows Downing Street staff recorded themselves last December joking about holding a banned Christmas party, reports The Independent.
