A BBC scheduling shake-up has seen The One Show swapped for extended news coverage following the resignation of Liz Truss as Prime Minister.

Earlier today, the PM delivered a speech outside Downing Street to announce that she was stepping down from the role after a disastrous short term, which has included crashing the economy and the departure of both her Chancellor of the Exchequer and Home Secretary.

In her statement, the outgoing minister said: ‘Given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.’

The infamous podium had been set up outside the doors to Number 10 shortly before 1.30pm, with regular programming rescheduled to focus on the speech.

It has now been announced scheduling shake-ups continue into the evening, with BBC confirming to Metro.co.uk that The One Show will be swapping its 7pm slot on BBC One for a move to BBC Two.

The shake-up comes amid the BBC’s 100-year celebration, in which a packed schedule of special events are taking place from shows including Doctor Who, The Repair Shop and Strictly Come Dancing.

The broadcaster turned 100 years old on Tuesday, October 18, having been founded in 1992.

To mark the special occasion, special programmes have been lined-up for the rest of this week, including Jodie Whittaker’s final appearance as the Doctor on Sunday.

Another show commemorating the anniversary will be The Repair Shop, with the beloved series set to air an episode featuring King Charles III on October 26, which was filmed in August 2021 when he was then Prince Charles.

The One Show will air at 7pm tonight on BBC Two and will be available to watch on iPlayer.
