Ten Hindu pilgrims killed in bus attack in India’s Jammu
At least 10 people have died and 33 were injured after suspected militants fired on a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims in the Indian federal territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The bus, en route to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, plunged into a gorge in Reasi district after the driver lost control.
Rescue operations have concluded, but the Indian army and police are conducting a search to track down the attackers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for the best medical care for the injured and vowed to punish those responsible.
The incident, believed to be an ambush by suspected militants, has not been claimed by any group. The region has been a longstanding conflict zone between India and Pakistan, with both countries accusing each other of destabilising activities.
Photos show injured individuals being treated at a hospital in Jammu. Officials have not yet identified the passengers but believe they are from Uttar Pradesh.
