Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that the UK has pledged £5 million to aid relief efforts following the disaster, stating, “It’s a devastating picture that is emerging from what has happened in Nepal.” He confirmed that immediate action is being undertaken to ensure that British nationals have access to support 24/7 and offered to send emergency responders, contingent upon approval from the Nepalese government.

Rescuers are continuing to look for survivors after the US Geological Survey said that a ‘glacial collapse’ triggered the wall of water and mud that tore through Nepal and Tibet.
More than 800 people are still said to be missing, and at least 270 have died in Nepal.
Meanwhile, in Tibet, just under 600 people are missing, with three confirmed dead.
The footage shows a huge rush of water tearing through the mountains as people scramble to safety.

As the workers flee, the sound of crashing waves can be heard in the background as the water continues to rush through the mountain.
Towards the end of the clip, a loud bang is then heard as each person finally makes their way to safety.
In the wake of the devastation, Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said that the UK has pledged £5 million to help with the response effort.
‘It’s a devastating picture that is emerging from what has happened in Nepal,’ Burnham said during a visit to South Wales.

So far, it is believed that 33 UK nationals are currently missing.
Burnham added: ‘Obviously, there are a number of British nationals who currently are thought to be missing and we’ll be providing all the support we can to their families in what is a very distressing and devastating situation.’
The PM also said that the UK has offered to send emergency responders to the region, but ‘that’s obviously a matter for the Nepalese government’.
