A stranger kidnapped a six-year-old girl who was playing outside her home, in what a judge called a ‘gravely concerning’ case.

Sajid Hussain, 51, came across three children – aged six, seven and 13 – playing outside their home in Slough, Berkshire, a judge said.

Recorder Louis Weston said: ‘He approached the children, hugged one of the children, kissed it, pushed it away, hugged and kissed the second child and kissed the third child.

‘He then walked away with the six-year-old child and as he walked away he picked her up, opened a door to a car and tried to get into it.

‘The children had reported this, and he was confronted by other adults, when he was shouting: “this is my daughter bro.”’

Hussain, who appeared at Reading Crown Court by video link from prison on Thursday for sentence, had been taking drugs before the offending, a court heard.

He had a ‘very lengthy record’ of previous offences, including for drugs, breaching a restraining order, use and possession of knives, and a burglary offence in 2024 for which he was jailed, the judge said.

Hussain was on licence whilst he committed the offences against the children, the court heard.

Recorder Weston added: ‘The facts of this case are pretty disturbing and plainly of grave and deep concern.

‘That a grown man in his 50s, with a pretty bad criminal record including violence, would wander up to three children, kiss and touch them – although not sexually – then pick one of the children up and walk off with that child, should cause real concern.’

Hussain, of Slough, had admitted kidnap and three counts of assault by beating, on the basis his touching of the children was not sexual.

The court heard Hussain had been developing delusions of grandeur in the months leading up to the offence, believed in telepathy and that he had been chosen by god and was communicating with god.

Prosecutors argued a further psychiatric report needed to be prepared given he might need to be made subject to a hospital order.

The case was adjourned until March 5.
