Stephen Reid’s reign of terror is at an end (Picture: ITV)
Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce)’s reign of serial killing terror recently came to an end in Coronation Street, as he met his comeuppance during Super Soap Week.
Viewers had seen him take the lives of Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost), Teddy Thompkins (Grant Burgin) and Rufus Donohue (Steven Meo), while he also drugged Carla Connor (Alison King) and attempted to steal all of his mum Audrey (Sue Nicholls)’s money.
However, he met an unexpected and shocking fate while attempting to escape, with Rovers’ landlady Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) narrowly avoiding becoming his fourth victim.
Recent scenes have seen Audrey trying to organise his funeraldeath is set to have huge consequences for some of Weatherfield’s residents – but just how did Stephen Reid die, and what has happened since?
How did Stephen Reid die in Coronation Street?
Stephen Reid died in Coronation Street after Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) hit him with his car.
The shocking moment came as desperate Stephen took Jenny hostage, dragging her out on the street with a broken bottle to her neck and demanding that David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) bring him a getaway car.
Despite pleas from Audrey and others to stop, he became more and more panicky as the truth about his murderous behaviour became clear to everyone.

At the same time, Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) begged him to confirm Tim’s (Joe Duttine) whereabouts, after he was the victim of a shocking assault at Stephen’s hands, being left to die while trapped in a car boot.
But the drama reached its peak as Peter raced back to Weatherfield, having failed to locate Stephen at the airport amid his attempts to flee to Thailand.
As Stephen approached the car he was going to get away in Peter drove at him, knocking him flying on to the cobbles.
He soon passed away – leaving Audrey distraught, Sally clueless as to Tim’s whereabouts, and Peter stunned that he had taken a life.
While Stephen may be gone the consequences of his death are set to be far-reaching for a number of characters – with Audrey having to come to terms with everything her son did, Tim dealing with the aftermath of his ordeal, and of coursePeter having to come to terms with killing him.
‘He has just killed someone so there are so many storylines that can come out of that and so many reasons that he might not be around any more,’ actor Chris Gascoyne revealed amid his recent decision to quit the show.
‘All I will say is I am delighted with my exit storyline, the scripts are superb and I can’t wait to see the reaction to how Peter leaves the street.
‘Peter is a man who is in deep conflict with himself. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter how it happened, he has killed someone.’
Coronation Street continues on Wednesday night on ITV1 at 8pm.
