So, you’ve ‘rotted’ half the day away and regret it. Don’t worry, hope isn’t lost

‘Bed rotting’ is the idea that you’ve spent all day in bed, figurative rotting away.

There’s nothing wrong with a rot day – we all do them – but sometimes spending all day in bed can leave us feeling worse off.

One TikTokker has created a list of tasks to do when bed rot hits, but you want to break the cycle of the day into something more productive that will make you feel better.

Content creator Raven said her plan is good if you ‘kinda regret’ rotting the day away.

Oftentimes when this happens, it can be hard to know where to start – so she’s made an agenda.

Starting at 3pm, assuming you spent the day in bed up until that point, she suggests spending 10 minutes getting out of bed and stretching.

Then spend the next 5 minutes changing into comfortable loungewear.

At 3.15pm, it’s time to make a meal, which is then followed by allotted intervals to focus on being productive and getting necessary tasks done, then time to relax and enjoy the evening.

Between 4.30 and 6.30, that’s productivity time, so in the grand scheme of the day, only two hours needs to be practical according to this schedule.

It’s an easy way into slowly getting out of goblin mode, which has resonated with viewers who call this plan ‘helpful’.

Bed rotting has racked up millions of views on TikTok, with it resonating among Gen Z.

A day like this can be seen as self-care, but longer term it might indicate poor mental health.

‘I guess it’s a new form of regrouping,’ licensed counsellor Tammy Foster-Harban said in a video about the trend.

‘Rotting is a way that Generation Zers prefer to take care of their self-care.’

She continued: ‘Apparently it’s good for your mental health and your physical health.

‘It’s laying in your bed, rotting and staying here as long as you want – as long as you’re regrouping.’

Raven stresses when you’re done rotting, it’s important to eat your meals ‘not in your bedroom’ to help you get out of that space.

Then, get to bed no later than midnight, so you’re not off-kilter the next day.

There’s no need to feel guilty – you just need to take care of yourself, and enjoy the occasional rot.
