Man Arrested Following Second Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump
Former President Donald Trump is unharmed following an apparent assassination attempt at his Florida golf course on Sunday, according to US authorities. A “potential suspect” has been taken into custody.
Secret Service agents spotted a rifle barrel emerging from bushes and opened fire. Trump was reportedly 300 to 500 yards away at the time of the incident, according to the FBI.
Witnesses identified the suspect, named by US media as Ryan Routh, fleeing the scene in a black Nissan after agents fired at him. Authorities later found an AK-47-style rifle, a scope, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera at the location.
A witness captured a photo of the suspect’s vehicle, which was later stopped in Martin County, north of the golf club.
It remains unclear if the gunman fired at Trump or the agents during the incident. Trump reassured supporters via email, confirming that he was “safe and well.”
This attempt comes two months after another gunman targeted Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, injuring his ear.
The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, from Hawaii, has a criminal history in North Carolina, including charges of carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, and hit-and-run, according to US media. Authorities are expected to provide further details in a press conference on Monday.
