The marine animals and oceans-focused theme park SeaWorld is opening several never-before-made rides including the world’s first surf coaster.

SeaWorld announced that it will unveil the first coaster mimicking riding a wave in Orlando, the world’s first launched flume coaster in San Antonio and the longest and fastest straddle coaster on the West Coast in San Diego. The rides in each of the parks will debut in 2023.

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment CEO Marc Swanson on Tuesday stated: ‘2023 promises to be another exciting year for our SeaWorld parks as we introduce more new rides and experiences that cannot be found elsewhere.’

Pipeline: The Surf Coaster in SeaWorld Orlando will show riders secured in standing position what it feels like to rise and fall with a wave. They will experience the rush of hanging loose, a ‘wave curl’ inversion and five airtime movements. The 54-foot-tall coaster will be capable of reaching up to 60mph.

In SeaWorld San Antonio, Catapult Falls will showcase the world’s steepest flume drop. The log ride of sorts will be the tallest flume drop in Texas and the only vertical lift flume ride in North America.

The ride will launch at a rate of 30 feet per second on a water track. The chute will carry riders at 53 degrees down at more than 37mph. An innovative elevator will lift riders up 7 feet per second to up to 55 feet for a dramatic drop.

In SeaWorld San Diego, the family friendly Arctic Rescue will take riders through a chilly climate to help animals in danger. Guests will straddle a snowmobile-style vehicle and be launched various times at 34, 38 and 40mph respectively. They will travel up to 30 feet tall on 2,800 feet of track.

The Arctic Rescue will be integrated with the Wild Arctic exhibit which houses belugas, walruses and a ringed seal. The ride is designed to give riders an awareness of factors that are threatening the arctic ecosystem and animals living there.

‘We strive to continually bring new thrills to our parks while also providing unique and engaging experiences with marine life that guests may not otherwise ever have a chance to have,’ Swanson stated, ‘All while knowing they are supporting an organization that has helped more than 40,000 animals in need over the last 55 years.’
