Rwanda threat ‘not deterring’ Channel crossings as baby among hundreds brought ashore

The i says Around 260 people crossed the Channel in small boats on Tuesday despite the Government’s claims that the threat of deportation to Rwanda would act as a deterrent.

Dozens of children and a baby were among those arriving in Dover onboard RNLI and Border Force vessels.

One man carried a toddler on his shoulders as he came ashore, and one woman was heavily pregnant.

Those arriving said they had come from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Asked if they knew they could be sent to Rwanda, most looked confused, while one replied: “What? No.”
