The Prince and Princess of Wales and the prime minister are among those who have congratulated England on winning the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

The win, crushing Canada 33-13 at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham, west London, marked England’s third World Cup title, and their first since 2014.

Actor Russell Crowe – an avid rugby fan and, for this tournament, Canada supporter – also congratulated the Red Roses, saying on social media: “Got to hand it to England Women’s Rugby team.

“Solid, dominant and as it turns out, unbeatable on the day. Big game players every one of them. Bad luck Canada. You can hold your heads high. Remarkable run.”
