Putin congratulates Trump after election win
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on his recent election victory, praising him as a “courageous man” during a speech in Sochi. Putin noted that Trump was “hounded from all sides” during his previous term in office and commented on Trump’s claim that he could end the war in Ukraine “in a day,” calling the idea one that “deserves attention.”
Putin also referenced an assassination attempt on Trump in July, expressing admiration for the former US president’s response. After being shot, Trump raised his fist and mouthed “fight, fight, fight” before being evacuated by Secret Service agents. “He behaved, in my opinion, in a very correct way, courageously, like a man,” Putin said.
When asked about the possibility of talks with Trump, Putin responded positively, saying, “We’re ready, we’re ready.” Trump, in an interview with NBC News, echoed the sentiment, stating, “I think we’ll speak.”
The Kremlin has faced accusations of meddling in the 2016 US election to favour Trump, though Moscow has denied the claims.
