Melo-D hadn’t actually watched Love Island before (Picture: Instagram)
A popstar has revealed he considered joining Love Island until his wife, understandably, put her foot down.
Blazin’ Squad star Melo-D, real name Chris McKeckney, said he ‘almost’ headed to the villa after being approached by ITV bosses.
The musician said an email was sent to their management asking if any of the group were up for it, with Marcel Sommerville later taking up the offer.
His wife Mia Marley, who gave birth to their young son Rio last year, however, forbid him from signing up.
He recalled: ‘I thought “Why not?” and spoke to my wife about it and she said “Don’t you know what that is?”
Melo-D continued to the Daily Star: ‘I’d never seen it so I had no idea and just thought it could be fun, but she understandably said “Absolutely not.”‘

Marcel, 37, reached the finals of the third season of Love Island in 2017, coming in fourth place with Gabby Allen.
However, their romance didn’t last with Marcel marrying Rebecca Vieira in a glamorous ceremony in Portugal last year.
The pair said I do after a two-year engagement, with Marcel popping the question at their gender reveal party for their son in August 2020.
