Policewoman killed and 10 injured in shooting in Israel
A 19-year-old Israeli policewoman, Sergeant Shira Chaya Suslik, has been killed and 10 others injured in a suspected terror attack at Beersheba’s central bus station. The gunman, who opened fire on civilians, was swiftly shot dead by security forces at the scene. Several of the injured suffered gunshot wounds, with one in serious condition.
The attack comes as Israel remains on high alert ahead of the anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 assault, which sparked the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Following the incident, Israeli officials condemned the attack, with calls for stronger measures against terrorism.
Ambulance services treated the injured, and the wounded were transported to Soroka Hospital for further care.
Shortly after the attack, Israel’s Transport Minister Miri Regev called for the families of “terrorists” to be deported from the country.
“The time has come for a deterrent punishment to prevent the attacks on Israeli territory,” she wrote on X.
