The incident is reported to have taken place in Leicester on Thursday afternoon, despite the reports from news agencies with an agenda there is no proof that this was an ‘XL Bully’ breed.

A police officer is receiving medical treatment for ‘serious injuries’ following a suspected dog attack.

The incident, which took place after officers entered an address on Lewis Close in Ibstock, Leicestershire, on Thursday afternoon, is believed to have involved an XL Bully.

The government announced plans to ban the controversial dog breed following a spate of fatal attacks.

Police were carrying out a search for a wanted man when the suspected XL Bully, which was being kept in the kitchen on the property, attacked.

One of the officers sustained a bite injury to the leg, which is understood to have required them to undergo hospital treatment overnight.

A second officer is also believed to have suffered a small cut on one of their hands.

Eyewitnesses have reported seeing ambulance services, as well as additional police units, arriving at the scene shortly after the attack.

The UK government recently announced it would ban the XL Bully breed following a raft of attacks across the country, some of which have proven fatal

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: ‘Officers attended an address in Lewis Close, Ibstock, at around 4:40pm on 26 October with regards to a man wanted by police.

‘On entering the address, two officers were attacked by a dog which was being kept in the kitchen.

‘One officer sustained serious bite injuries to his upper leg and remains in hospital. The second officer sustained a small laceration to his finger.’

They added: ‘Although the dog has not been further examined, it is believed to be a XL Bully breed.
