Nottingham’s triple murder suspect has been branded ‘morose’ and ‘silent’ by former flatmates.
Valdo Calocane, of no fixed address, was charged today following the deaths of Barnaby Webber, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates.
Pictures have emerged today of the 31-year-old during his time as a student.
Calocane studied mechanical engineering at the University of Nottingham – where Barnaby and Grace had also studied – and graduated in 2022, the Daily Mail reported.
One former flatmate of Calocane relayed their memories of the older student.
They told MailOnline: ‘At first we just thought he was quiet.
‘He was always morose and really silent with us, but a girl we knew said she ran into him at a nightclub and he was completely manic,’ his former flatmate continued.
‘It was a shock when I saw his name published as the suspect yesterday.

According to MailOnline, Calocane moved into the £6,000-a-year shared flat around October 2021.
He would ‘sit there silently’ in its shared kitchen, his peers recalled.
The former flatmate continued to the Mail: ‘Our first impression was that he was just a mature student who didn’t want to speak to younger ones like us but if we made a noise, as students do, he’d burst in and just say ”shut the f*** up”.’
The University of Nottingham said in a statement on Thursday: ‘We are devastated that the suspect is a former University of Nottingham student.

‘The police have confirmed that this is not believed to be connected with the attack.’
University of Nottingham students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both 19, were stabbed to death in Ilkestone Road shortly after 4am on Tuesday.
A short while later, school caretaker Ian Coates, 65, was found dead with knife wounds in Magdala Road.
The heartbroken families of those killed united together and bravely spoke out about the tragic loss of their loved ones.
Chief constable Kate Meynell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: ‘These charges are a significant development and arise as a result of our thorough investigation into these horrific incidents that occurred in our city.

‘Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all those affected by these attacks, and we will continue to provide support and reassurance.
‘We would also ask people to respect the families’ wishes for privacy at this difficult time to allow them to grieve.
‘This has been an incredibly sad time for our city and county, and we stand united with our communities as we come to terms with the effects of what has happened.’
