Over-50s among those to be offered booster jabs from next week

The government have confirmed that booster jabs will be offered to the over-50s, those in care homes, and frontline health and social care workers as of next week.

The first choice mRNA vaccine, based on trial outcomes, for a booster, is the Pfizer jab, or a half-dose of a Moderna jab as it works just as well. Those unable to have an mRNA vaccine due to allergies should have an AstraZeneca vaccine booster.

A third dose shouldn’t be given until six months after a person has had their second shot.

Sajid Javid told the Commons: “I can confirm I’ve accepted the JCVI’s advice and the NHS is preparing to offer booster doses from next week.”

Those eligible for a booster jab will be contacted by the NHS. The jabs will take place at mass vaccination centres and GP surgeries.

PM set to unveil winter plan ‘toolbox’, including booster vaccines for over-50s
