Ed Sheeran has wowed fans, onlookers and commuters by playing in a London street.

The British singer and songwriter, 34, performed with his acoustic guitar outside King’s Cross station on Friday.

Sheeran, wearing a bright pink t-shirt, sang his new track Azizam as well as hits including Perfect, Bad Habits and Shivers.

The Shape of You and Thinking Out Loud singer shared an Instagram post after his performance and described the atmosphere as “awesome”.

One onlooker who had time to spare between changing trains said she “struck gold” and felt “lucky” after witnessing the star play in an intimate setting.

Legal secretary Olivia Heathcote, 22, from Teesside, said: “I didn’t know he was going to be performing so I felt like I struck gold when I left King’s Cross station.

“The atmosphere was amazing, everyone was singing along and it was a super fun experience. He played all of his most famous songs and I felt really lucky to be able to see it live.”

Some fans who follow Sheeran on social media had been aware of his plans.

They included Ronnie Swan, 26, who “rushed over” at the chance of seeing him perform live.

Mr Swan, who is originally from Brisbane, Australia, but now lives in Twickenham, was at King’s Cross at around 1pm.

He said: “It was a dream come true to see Ed perform in that setting. I’ve seen him a couple of times play a stadium, but to watch him just play in the street… was incredible.”

Meanwhile, some dedicated fans even came from overseas, including 29-year-old Felix Stender who made the trip from his home town of Kiel, near Hamburg.

“I just travelled from Germany for the small gig at King’s Cross as I knew today was the release day for the song Azizam,” he said.
