New Dragon Age Dreadwolf trailer doesn’t show anything – no more news till 2024

Dragon Age Dreadwolf – this is all you’re getting till next year (Picture: EA)

You can give up hoping for news of Dragon Age Dreadwolf at The Game Awards on Friday, as BioWare is saving a proper reveal till next year.

It is proving to be a very long wait for the new Dragon Age game. It’s nine years since the last one – which also happens to be the last time BioWare’s main studio made a role-playing game – and we still know very little about it.

There have been a number of videos of Dragon Age Dreadwolf before, but it’s a bit of a stretch to call any of them trailers, as they neither show gameplay or explain the story properly, and that’s the case for this new one as well.

Much like N7 Day for Mass Effect, it was Dragon Age Day today and the video below offers a look at some of the in-game locations, which look perfectly nice but are not the revelation many will have been hoping for.

A new blog post from BioWare promises that the game world for Dreadwolf will be much larger than any of the previous games, allowing you to explore more of the fantasy realm of Thedas.

BioWare describes, ‘The desolate, beautiful badlands of the Anderfels with curtains of distant mountainous spires. The twisting canals and gleaming towers of Antiva, where Crows may lurk in any shadow. The turquoise seas of Rivain with its rushes of greenery and hardy sea-faring people.’

That’s all well and good but it’s so long since BioWare has made a successful role-playing game that there are serious questions as to whether they can still live up to their legacy.

A few seconds of fantasy landscapes and character voiceovers is not going to assuage those concerns, especially as there’s still no confirmation what year the game is going to be out – even though BioWare claim the main story is now full playable from beginning to end.

Dreadwolf has previously featured at multiple The Game Awards ceremonies and although no announcement had been made, many hoped it would be there again this year.

Similar assumptions were made about GTA 6, which was said to debut its first trailer in ‘early’ December. However, rather than December 8, for The Game Awards, it will premiere on Tuesday at 2pm GMT.

Sadly, it’ll be a lot longer before we see anymore of Dragon Age Dreadwolf…
