House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul Pelosi underwent a successful surgery and expected to make a full recovery after being hammered by an assailant at their home.

An assailant reportedly confronted Paul, 82, at the couple’s San Francisco home on Thursday night and demanded to see his wife, and after a struggle attacked Paul with a hammer.

‘Mr Pelosi was admitted to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital where he underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands,’ stated Nancy’s spokesman Drew Hammill.

‘His doctors expect a full recovery.’

The assailant, identified by authorities as David Depape, 42, shouted, ‘Where is Nancy, where is Nancy?’

Responding police officers found Paul, a venture capitalist, and Depape struggling over a hammer. Paul eventually let go and Depape began hitting him with it. Cops then tackled Depape to the ground.

Paul and Depape were both hospitalized.

Nancy, 82, was in Washington, DC, at the time of the attack and was with her protective detail.

Capitol Police said special agents from its California field office ‘quickly arrived on scene’. The agency is assisting San Francisco police and the FBI in the investigation.

‘The Speaker and her family are thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers from friends, constituents and people around the country,’ Hammill stated.

‘The Pelosi family is immensely grateful to Mr Pelosi’s entire medical team and the law enforcement officers who responded to the assault. The family appreciates respect for their privacy during this time.’

Earlier on Friday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that President Joe Biden was praying for Paul and the Pelosi family.

‘This morning he called Speaker Pelosi to express his support after this horrible attack,’ Jean-Pierre stated. ‘He is also very glad that a full recovery is expected.’
